Needless to say, Ubisoft is one of the biggest gaming publishers globally. They asked Three Motion to create a promotional video as a part of their recruitment campaign. The aim was to showcase how buzzing and fun their workplace is.
In the initial meeting we had with Laura, Sarah and Lula it became apparent that they wanted something different. It was important that the video reflected on the company’s culture and highlights what makes them different. We came up with the idea of showing the journey of a new employee with a bit of a twist.
We wanted to draw a parallel to the gaming world. Therefore, we created “levels” which the character had to go through successfully. The final goal for the newbie was to join the work family by becoming a part of the family wall.
The client felt it was important to include their welcome box as a key element to the story. As a result, Jon, our Senior Editor and Animator, created an exact 3D copy of the box which was included in the opening shot.
Once the concept was agreed, I created a shot list and a running order of the sequence to make sure we have a plan in place. I was keen on creating a seamless transition between the “levels”. As a result, I came up with the idea of using frame blocking transitions to move on from one area to the next.
The filming took place over two days and we included various areas of the office. We used a combination of tripod, handheld and gimbal to capture the action.
In post production, it was crucial that the concept was reflected by the graphics and music. Therefore, I selected an electro track with great synths and gaming sfx. The design of the graphics was also reflected by one of the most popular games by Ubisoft – Tom Clancy’s The Division.
The final video was very well received from the entire team and helped them in building a successful recruitment campaign.
