Backyard Bike Shop specialises in servicing, repairs and custom builds. The Pro Workshop used to be nested in Ouseburn but has now relocated to Gateshead’s Quayside. It is the place to visit if you’re after a good cup of coffee and discussing all things bikes.
As a part of Three Motion’s NE Mavericks campaign, we created 2 promotional videos about the bike shop. The campaign aims to showcase some of the most innovative small businesses in the North East.
The 60-second promo focuses entirely on the stunning visuals captured from the space. The footage was filmed using two different cameras and a variety of techniques. For example, slow motion, slider movement, focus pulls etc.
In the post production stage of the video, I felt it was important to represent the friendly atmosphere and edgy design of the shop. I listened through a number of audio tracks before I came across a track by The Seige. As soon as I heard it, I knew the boldness and the attitude would sound just right with the visuals we had.
The final video achieved great results on social media with over 7,500 views and 55 shares on Facebook alone.
In the second video of the project we wanted to showcase Nic Vieri’s story and give an insight into how the business started. He talks about what makes Backyard Bike Shop different from any other bike shop. He also shares his advice to the next generation of entrepreneurial mavericks.
When I was editing the video, I wanted to really get the atmosphere of the space across to the viewer. Therefore, I used a mix of sound captured on location and a library of SFX to create the sound design of the piece. Regarding the choice of music, I went for an urban hip-hop genre with a groovy modern vibe to reflect on the shop’s style. Throughout the video, I used editing techniques such as speed-ramping, frame blocking, deflection transitions with popping graphics etc.
